Mary Myeong-a Lee

The word "Origami" is a combination of Japanese words "Ori" and "Kami" where "Ori" means "fold" and "Kami" means "paper".  People in Japan, Korea and China learn Origami in school or practice it as a hobby and display their creations in their homes, office, etc.  Beginning with a square-shaped piece, the paper is folded into various shapes, designs and forms including triangles, octagons and animals.  Origami helps develop math skills, but is also practiced for sheer enjoyment.  When the finished work of art is displayed, it catches the eye's interest and provides a wonderful conversation piece.

My work is based mainly on 3 dimensions and modern aesthetics; I focus on expressing tones of natural color.  I try to reveal the colors, which vary in numerous ways by the angle of the light source.  I deeply enjoy the varieties of colors visualized by the different lights and shadows.  I hope you also enjoy freedom of color from my work.
