Carmen A. Zengel
Pre-Colombian Ceramics and Embossed Metal
Carmen lives in Lloyd, Florida, where she maintains a studio along with her plants and flowers. Carmen shares the studio with her husband Gerry and their Labrador Max.
Having recently relocated from Killearn via Coral Springs, Florida, the Lloyd experience has been new for sure as Carmen and Gerry have developed their ten acres into a comfortable homestead.
Carmen’s education and training began in Cali, Colombia, where she was born. Her family’s history of work in the Arts is well known in Cali with a teaching studio and gallery. Carmen’s brothers are artists and that is where it all began for her. Carmen’s younger brother is an art professor at the University and another brother maintains a teaching studio in Cali. Carmen spent several years learning and working with her brothers. Their diversity is broad with ceramic and wood sculpturing along with traditional canvas work.
Carmen’s range in artwork is great for she can do wood sculpture, mold design, paint and metal embossing on wood. Of late Carmen has been working mostly with embossed metal on wood, having done several pieces for local churches. Her metal embossing really began during her training at the Sculptor Center in Cleveland, Ohio, where she trained under Ron Dewey, a noted metal artist and sculptor.
Carmen’s ceramic work continues too as she has recently completed a series of new pieces. Her creativity and freshness comes through clearly in these new works.
