Melinda Patrick Cowen, Ph.D.

Melinda Patrick Cowen Ph.D. is a Renaissance lady in every sense of the word.  She has degrees in Fine Art, Theatre, Costume History and Design, and finally Textile Development.  She has been producing art, jewelry, and costume designs for over twenty years.  Her sense of color, shape, subtle layering, and ability to give even the most common item individuality has won her awards in design and art competitions and the opportunity to show her creations in gallery settings.  Dr. Cowen currently focuses on creating earrings using quality glass, Swarovski crystals, bone, Bali silver, and even Coconut from Hawaii.  She hand picks all her beads and combines them in a variety of combinations of sizes and colors to fit the individual.  Many times she has made earrings for clients at the show to match items they purchased from other vendors or brought from home.  Dr. Cowen also designs cultural dress for entertainment and everyday wear.  Her latest costumes were part of a three person exhibit called Fusion that was hosted by the Oglesby Union Gallery at Florida State University in 2007.  She sells her creations at Browsers, www.costumeinfinity.com, and through www.halimedasoasis.com and through trunk shows.  She is also instructor and director of Kahu Ahi and Firestorm, two cultural dance troupes in Tallahassee.
