R.W. Carey

Abstract Photo-Expressionism / Fine Art Photography

Although involved in another form of artistic expression as a professional musician for many years, R.W. Carey has always been drawn to the visual arts.  After retiring from the U.S. Navy and Army Bands, he re-entered the world of photography and has been delighted with all of the possibilities that it now offers.

Aristotle said, “Art completes what nature cannot bring to finish.  The artist gives us knowledge of nature's unrealized ends.”  R.W. Carey’s style of Abstract Photo-Expressionism is identified by his use of vibrant color as well as geometric and free-form images created from his original photographs using various in-camera filters and photo editing software.  Pigmented archival inks and archival paper are used in the process of creating Mr. Carey's images, which are individually printed and signed by the artist.

As photography is the essence of capturing a moment in time that will never occur again, the photographer's palette helps to infuse that moment in time with another layer of perception, so that the reality of line, color and balance is subtly changed to create its own reality, expanded upon as a painter might do… creating art with an appreciation of the subject that is more than what the eye sees; it is what the soul knows can be.

Examples of R.W. Carey's work have been exhibited at numerous art fairs, studios and galleries including the Robert Rauschenberg Gallery at Edison College and The Arts for A.C.T. Gallery in Ft. Myers, Florida, Light N Up Artists Co-Op in Havana, FL., and are held in several private collections worldwide.
